Baking potatoes

I stand in the kitchen
not really present
talking about baking potatoes
with my husband.

For a second
the girl who baked potatoes
in so many other people's kitchens
looks out of these woman's eyes
awed at the fact
that she can bake potatoes
in her own kitchen.

In that instant the woman
receives as a gift
the incredible pleasure
of baking potatoes
in her own kitchen,
and is grateful.

 It's a skill, you know, taking pleasure in your surroundings, being grateful for what you have. It's hard to do when you're hypervigilant.

 right now i'm blessed to relax.
this morning a friend for our past, stopped in as he traveled father North.
talking about old memories over fresh hard roll from NJ for Ny rolls are tasteless.
the little things life one misses when you move.
we fished a lot together so we made plans to fish again this spring to fall salt water.
and tonight bowl of soup, salid and one fresh butter roll.
