Is it just me......

Or does everyone else think Valentines day is just a Hallmak holiday? For the life of me I can't even remember one present I ever got for valentines day. Oh, I remember giving presents for sure..but when it comes to something I might have recieved my mind draws a blank.

I do remember the shoebox mailboxes we had to make every year in grade school, always looked the same, you'd get that box your dad's workboots came in and cover it with tin foil, or construction paper, then you'd draw or try to paste little hearts on it to make it look better, trouble was the crayon never worked on the shinny tin foil, or the construction paper hearts always fell off because you used too much of that stiff school paste. In the end you had, a box full of paper valentines that your mother threw out the second you got home.

Love isn't disposable, but the greeting card and flower industry has made it so. On this one day money is no object, the gift meaningless. Their origin is not about showing some one you care for them, but rather the earnings they make on the sale. So, should we boycot the holiday..by no means am I sugesting that we do. I think those that we care for would throw a hissy fit if we did. But, don't let your expression of love be held to a single day. Tell them every day of the year. Let them know you care even on those off days. It will mean more coming then, then it will wrapped in a Valintines gift.

 My fav Valentine's Day presents are the homemade ones from my kids..
