Good Things
Good Things I was driving west over the weekend, on that wonderfully iconic British road the A 303. For once I wasn't stuck in a traffic jam. I was having one of those days when everything seems right with the world, and you look at usually mundane things and notice them in more detail, realising how much there is to admire in them. A newly germinated green field of crops, a herd of cows, an old vintage VW camper van passing in the other direction, that kind if thing. Serendipity - not a word I am fond of somehow, I don't like its sound. In fact I think I even mistrust the kind of people who like to use it. (Or a lot of the time, misuse it.) But I do like what it means. In the dictionaries there are a variety of definitions, but my favourite is, "The gift of noticing good things otherwise overlooked." Another is "an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident." Serendipity can sort of happen by itself - it is a thing in its own right, like good luck, but I like these definitions because they recognise the fact that in order to make the most of good luck, you have to appreciate it, you have to notice that it has happened. That, I think, is where the expression "You make your own luck" comes from. The converse is also true: successful and happy people know how to disregard bad luck. How to avoid the curse of intrusive negative thoughts. When you think about it, life is a lot like sex in that way. We all know how you mustn't let the wrong thoughts creep in just at the key moment. How you need to focus on the good things which are happening for it to work at its best. And, when you are with a partner who makes it all come easily, how practised you become at that perfect feeling of being in tune with each other. I think I need to get back in tune with life. In love with life if you like. Maybe most of us do. After all, your sexual partner is never really perfect are they? But they can seem to be when you are in the middle of an orgasm. (Or if they don't you are either getting it wrong, or have picked the wrong partner!) Maybe we have to treat life more like a lover, forgive it for not being perfect, but cultivate our ability to notice its good things more. |

After I had posted this I thought - maybe we need to remember to treat our lovers more like that too!

I've been ruminating a lot lately on how much I really appreciate and enjoy the simple things in life, and on how much I like and admire people who find pleasure in those things. Like a dear friend now sadly no longer here who would smile at the sight of cherry blossom, or the wee 2yo I was with the other day who just giggled at the sheer joy of walking up steps. I quite like serendipity, and ruminating. I also wonder, if life is a living thing should it's 'its' have an apostrophe? And lastly, I hope that last question gets you ruminating McDream! Hmm, not sure I've ever driven the A303.......

Spring is making me feel that everything is ok, so many birds singing, all the flowers and trees that are blooming and budding, for few seconds I forget we are in a global pandemic. ...

And no, I don't think life's its should have an apostrophe, because a possessive its never does have one does it?

There is a lot of pleasure to be had from positive ruminating I think. And cherry blossom. The A 3030 is a bit like the A9, only south westwards! And no, I don't think life's its should have an apostrophe, because a possessive its never does have one does it? eg 1. The car needed its brakes fixed. 2. The monkey needed it's brain fixed. So, viewing life as an animate object as I do, then it's it's....... Having said that, I'm happy to defer to your wisdom and knowledge in this regard......every day's a school day.......which must mean that this subject falls into the positive category for the purposes of rumination, for me at least!! This is a sex site, isn't it?

I was always taught that possessive 'its' would not require an apostrophe where the possessing object was inanimate. Whereas when the possessing object is a living thing then an apostrophe should be included. *Raising hand and waving wildly It's and its has to do with possessives, and when the words 'it is' would be appropriate. As in, 'Life has its ups and downs,' or 'When life hands you lemons it's good to make lemonade.' *stepping down off of soapbox.

Yep hotdreamer, and so often we take what is "right under our noses", as they say, for granted. Or we get so used to it we can't appreciate it the way we used to. I mean I know people who live opposite the ocean, and they barely see it anymore, they never go and walk the beach! Or people who live near the mountains, they're just there! (Here, I have to just say, I always enjoy driving into our country town and looking at the mountains cos they are always different, either moody with clouds draped on or around em, or all lit up with the bright sun shine! It makes me happy), Anyway, yes the simple things in life are indeed best! Guess this could also apply to a lover, and never to take him or her for granted? ..... And always 'hold onto all those sexy thoughts'! (Remember if you feel like taking part in some sexy fun then click here!) Come on Some Sketch Fun And Now How About 39Me39 Watching 39You39 If you39d like that Please Comment - So if you would like - click here as well!

Yes, I of course know that. I can't vouch for Lindo. Nice soapbox by the way, where did you get it?

I made it myself!

Hi Cnnamon. Fortuitous is a perfectly good word. And yes, sometimes a lover's imperfections, physical or personal, are part of their attraction. I wrote a blog about this many years ago which I had completely forgotten until now: [post584946]
